Gas Buy Down

On Saturday March 27th servedanville.com in partnership with Dan River Church had a $.20 gas buy down for the community of Danville. That means that we were able to buy down the price of gas 20 cents per gallon for two hours at Woodson Marathon Service Station on Riverside Dr.. The generous giving of the people of Dan River Church made this possible, but beyond that, the event was a fantastic way of uplifting the community of Danville in a small but special way. $1.00 Car Wash – Servedanville.com Event

In addition to the Gas Buy Down servedanville.com held, Dan River Church also hosted a $1 Car Wash! There was just one catch. We didn’t charge $1, we were paying $1.00 so that we can wash another’s car! That’s right we are paying others to wash their car. Why? Because we wanted to serve Danville with the love of Jesus, no strings attached. Paying others to wash the dirt and grime off of their car was a special and meaningful way to serve others and to show our awesome community that Jesus loves them with no strings attached. We were able to wash approximately 40 cars and put a smile on many faces. It was an awesome event, because we were able to serve Danville in a cool and special way, while reminding them that truly the best things in life are free. A special thanks to the DRC student ministry and to some great Liberty University student who came to serve Danville! Stay tuned for more servedanville.com events!

Little Life Pregnancy Center

Little Life pregnancy medical center has been serving Danville for 20 years. They assist women with unplanned pregnancies by providing on going practical, educational and spiritual support through the Life Line program. This program offers classes in parenting, breastfeeding, infant CPR, bible studies and childbirth preparation. Not only do they provide compassionate peer counseling but also limited medical care.

Dan River Church is proud to partner with Little Life by “adopting a room”. They are in the middle of remodeling their current facility and are in need of help. We have chosen a room that will make a huge impact on many women who seek help from this organization, the classroom. When a woman participates in a class she earns “little life money” which she can use to “purchase” things from their clothing closet.

In November, we were able to serve Little Life by doing light outdoor cleaning, stripping wall paper, painting and cleaning the classroom. We also built clothing racks and organized their clothing closet. We would also like to fill their diaper closet which is critically low at this time.

Little Life is where many scared girls find out they are pregnant, hear the amazing heartbeat of life and see their unborn baby for the first time. Little Life is where many girls choose life, Dan River Church and ServeDanville.com is proud to serve Danville by serving Little Life. (Psalm 139:13)

House for Hope

On Oct. 31st, 2009, Dan River Church and servedanville.com partnered with the House of Hope to provide a warm and friendly atmosphere for the homeless. We cleaned essentially everything from windows to toilets and everything in between. We hung decorations, provided floor mats, carpet runners, shower curtains and soap dispensers. On the outside we did some pressure-washing of the parking lot and the brick outside. Many brought canned goods to help stock their pantry and left them with a gift basket of snacks, movies and magazines. The volunteers served the homeless with Christ-like humility by the sweat of their brows without any complaining. The Lord spoke of the kind of service he expects from His people, “Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house;”(Isaiah 58:7). Thank you to all who participated in making a difference in our community!

Oct. 3rd Family Block Party

Servedanville.com and Dan River Church had an amazing block party this past Saturday, Oct. 3rd! Pictures will be up soon. We had over 60 people come out to enjoy the beautiful weather with us. We had a great time with the Danville community jumping around in bounce houses, playing some fun carnival games, and enjoying slushies, hot dogs, and popcorn. The weather was amazing! But most importantly the relationships we were able to begin with the Danville community was awesome! Thanks for coming everyone!

Dan River Church has Launched!

If you’ve been checking out servedanville.com at all, you may have noticed that servedanville.com is an initiative sponsored by Dan River Church in Danville, VA. Well we are excited to say that Dan River Church has launched! DRC had over 360 in attendance on it’s very first service on Oct. 4th! The service was awesome and we feel that people connected with God in a powerful way. Servedanville.com is excited to see Dan River Church begin and is excited to see what will happen in the future!

If you are looking for a great church then you should check out Dan River Church on Sunday’s at 10 am at G.W. High School. The address is George Washington High School, 701 Broad Street, Danville, VA 24541. The church is a casual contemporary church, so come just as you are. The church has awesome music, a great kids program, and practical Biblical teaching that will help you grow closer to God. Hope to see you there!

School Supplies – Delivered!

On Wednesday, August 19th members of Dan River Church had the opportunity to serve four area schools. It was a tremendous day partnering with and connecting with principals and teachers and the schools they represent in serving our community. We were able to deliver hundreds of bags of school supplies (as well as free Cold Stone Creamery Ice Cream coupons) to teachers and students.

We look forward to continuing to build on the relationships we made with the following elementary schools: W. Townes Lea, Glenwood and Park Avenue. We also are exciting about the privilege to serve students at the Langston Campus of GW High School.

We are so thankful for the privilege to serve these schools and can‚Äôt wait to be able to serve with other organizations in the Danville region. Check out our photos page to see what took place!

Back to School!

WAKE UP! Can you believe students from elementary thru college will be hearing that message starting soon? The alarm, be it a mom or a dad or an old fashion alarm clock, will be waking students up because it is time to go back to school.

Many students are unable to afford all of the supplies needed this school year. Serve Danville is providing supplies for teachers from three different schools. We will be delivering bags filled with the key supplies for this year to teachers the week of August 17th. We have the privilege of helping the following elementary schools: West Townes Lea, Park Avenue and Glenwood.

We are also setting up a station on the campus of Averett University on Monday, August 24th and handing out supplies that every college student needs. We will be doing our part to make sure every student knows that there is someone who cares for them while they are away from their natural home.

Please be in prayer for us as we serve the needs of all our students this school year.

There are many needs and issues facing people today in our culture.¬† Many wish they could simply transform into some kind of superhero or a secret identity and make all the stress and difficulties go away.¬† But the reality is the needs and problems seem to always stay with us.

Serve Danville has a very simple goal and desire.¬† We are here to do everything we can do to serve the real needs of those that call Danville home.¬† We want to meet people where they are in life and help them find the one and only hope for all of life‚Äôs needs.

People don‚Äôt care how much you know until they know how much you care.¬† We‚Äôre here to show our community that there really is somebody who cares.¬† Whether its helping someone put together a resume, holding a job fair, having a free yard sale, passing out sandwiches and water, helping provide backpacks for underprivileged elementary and middle school students or a number of other things, serve Danville is all about serving and meeting needs.
